Creating My Own Legacy as the Next JAI EDWARD BLYDEN.
Jai Edward Blyden is a dedicated architecture student at Howard University with a strong focus on research, design, and sustainability. As a descendant of Edward Wilmot Blyden, he draws inspiration from his lineage to explore the intersections of architecture, cultural heritage, and social justice.
Jai’s work centers on examining sacred Black spaces, exploring how the built environment shapes community, identity, and emotional well-being. He utilizes innovative diagrammatic analysis methods, such as tartan grids, to assess how architecture contributes to the cultural and spiritual significance of spaces. His current research focuses on Howard University’s campus and its profound impact on the collective experience of freedom and joy among its students and faculty.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Jai is an active member of the Howard University College of Engineering and Architecture faculty board, where he serves as a liaison between students, faculty, and alumni. He has successfully grown the department's Instagram presence, gaining the attention of industry organizations like the AIA and ACSA.
